(b) Spring Time has come - The Harvest is Ready (2:10-13):

Verse 10 - “ Rise Up, my Love, my fair one, and come away.” - We must arise and come away, out of our Comfort Zones, through the barriers (walls/windows/lattices) that hinder us from following Him into His purposes (See Heb 12:1-2).

Verse 11: A new season has come - in their relationship and in the world!

WINTER = Cold outside / Stay inside comfort of house (hidden), protected by loved ones. (here refers to cloudy season of March/April) - Dark period spiritually

SPRING = Time to go out. Harvest time (for grapes particularly)

The season of harvest is here now in the World - we must arise and follow Jesus! No more are we to hide away in our comfort zones as the time of singing (Spring time - would be much singing and celebration on stringed instruments due to the harvest) has come. It's a season of praise.

Signs Of The Times.

In verses 12 to 13 the Beloved (Jesus) tells the Lover (The Church) the various signs that show it is Spring (just before Summer which is a type of the Second Coming of Christ). What are the signs we can now see.....

(i) Flowers appear - This would add delightful colour to the dull earth and cause people to sing. It speaks of people blossoming for Jesus all over the earth. We are seeing this as in no other time.(The Hebrew word for ‘ flower’=’nitstsan’ = ‘to shine’.)

(ii) Voice of the dove heard - Dove = Holy Spirit.

This talks about the prophetic voice of God’s Spirit (Rev 2:7). The Prophetic ministry has only recently been recognised widely once more - this indicates that a great harvest is near. The Holy Spirit speaks to the church through anointed prophetic vessels that trumpet forth specific messages for our generation that must be heard and acted upon.

(iii) Fig Tree puts forth Early Fruit - Fig Tree = ‘sweetness’ = ISRAEL.
The Fig Tree is a symbol of Israel ( Hos 9:10; Matt 21:19 ). Fig Trees often put forth early figs (reason why Jesus looked for it in Mk 11:13) before the main harvest. This indicated Summer was near (See Lk 21:29-30). Looking at Israel today we can see that ‘summer’ is very near! God has been restoring Israel (1948 became a nation) and she has been flourishing ever since (not without opposition though!).

(iv) The Vine with tender grapes - Vine = ‘Joy’ = THE CHURCH (Jn 15 especially)

What ever happens in Israel is paralleled by the Church ( Figs and Vines are mostly seen together in Scripture). A renewal of Joy in the Church indicates that a big harvest is near! The vines 'give a good smell' - this speaks of being full of anointing which can be discerned by all around (to some the smell of lif, to others the smell of death - 2 Cor 2:16).

SUMMARY: The joyful time of harvest has come. Can’t you see the signs! Rise up and join in the singing and follow Jesus into the harvest fields of this world!
