(ii) Cappiyr (5601) - a gem (perhaps used for scratching other substances), probably the sapphire - a primitive root; properly, to score with a mark as a tally or record, i.e. (by implication) to inscribe, and also to enumerate; intensively, to recount, i.e. celebrate.
Sapphire. The modern sapphire, a blue variety of corundum, was probably not used until the third century B. C. The Hebrew word for sapphire refers to lapis lazuli-- a silicate of alumina, calcium, and sodium. It was highly regarded as an ornamental stone <Song 5:14; Lam. 4:7; Ezek. 28:13>. Rich beds of sapphire were found in the mountainous regions of ancient Persia deposited in limestone rock.
Sapphire was the second jewel in the second row of Aaron's breastplate <Ex. 28:18; 39:11>. It was also the second stone in the foundation of the New Jerusalem <Rev. 21:19>.
