From root meaning 'burnt down to the foundations'. - down to bear essentials.

A dessert or delicacy in Solomon's time <Song 2:5>; (flagon, KJV). These cakes were made from dried raisins. Raisin cakes were also connected by the prophet Hosea with sacrifices made to the pagan god Ishtar <Hos. 3:1>.
