When I went to the beach last weekend, I decided to scope for shells with
my little cousin. We ended up getting a lot since we made it a point to
wake up early. With great delight, we found out that a lot of these shells
contained living things. We had a collection of various hermit crabs in
our container. Thinking that they would make great pets, we decided to
bring it home to our fish bowl. But the next day, we saw a lot of dead
crabs...we decided to clean out the bowl and put in fresh water, thinking
that might be the problem but one by one they continued dying. A few
remained alive but unless there is a way for me to bring them back to the
beach which will take a 3 1/2 hour trip by car, their health would probably
deteriorate also. Humans living in this world face the same situation as
my poor hermit crabs. Everyday, we are deteriorating, dying and the sad
thing is not many of us knows what's going on. We are bogged down with
worries, concerns about worldly things and indulge in the pleasures of this
world without knowing that in the process it kills us...spiritually. We
have been separated from the presence of the Lord for so long we do not
know what it is like to live a holy life nor do we know enough to look for
it. We are satisfied with our jobs, our family, our friends but we forget
about our spirit. Yet this spirit is the one who will live on later, in
eternal joy and peace with our Lord or in eternal pain and misery in the
darkness of hell's sulfur. Today, let us choose to bring back the hermit
crabs to the beach, to share the gospel to the lost and to give the dying a
chance to live.
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It
teaches us to say No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live
self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait
for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior,
Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and
to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is
good." Titus 2:11-14
