I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you,
which are your glory.

2 Cor 12 7-10
To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great
revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to
torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he
said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so
that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am
weak, then I am strong.
Mt 24 9
Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be
hated by all nations because of me.
Acts 9 15-16
But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my
name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will
show him how much he must suffer for my name.
Act 14 21-22
They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples.
Then they returned to Lystra , Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the disciples
and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many
hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said.
II Cor 1 8
We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered
in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to
endure, so that we despaired even of life.
II Tim 3 10-12
You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith,
patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings--what kinds of things happened
to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord
rescued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in

We sent Timothy, who is our brother and God's fellow worker in spreading the
gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one
would be unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for
them. In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be
persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.
Acts 4 2-3
They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and
proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter and John, and
because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day.
Acts 5 30-33
The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead--whom you had killed by
hanging him on a tree. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior
that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. We are witnesses
of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey
him When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death
Acts 5 14-18
Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were
added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid
them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them
as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem,
bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed.
Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the
Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in
the public jail.
Acts 5 38-42
Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go!
For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God,
you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting
against God. His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had
them flogged. Then they ordered Them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let
them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted
worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.Day after day, in the temple courts
and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good
news that Jesus is the Christ.
Acts 7 51-62
You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like
your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!Was there ever a prophet your
fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the
Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him-- you who have
received the law that was put into effect through angels but have not obeyed
it.When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But
Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and
Jesus standing at the right hand of God. "Look," he said, "I see heaven open and
the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God At this they covered their ears
and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of
the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their clothes at the
feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed,
"Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do
not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
Acts 8 1-3
And Saul was there, giving approval to his death. On that day a great persecution
broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were
scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.Godly men buried Stephen and mourned
deeply for him. But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house,
he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.
Acts 9 22-26
Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus
by proving that Jesus is the Christ. After many days had gone by, the Jews
conspired to kill him, but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close
watch on the city gates in order to kill him. But his followers took him by night and
lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall. When he came to
Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not
believing that he really was a disciple.
Acts 12 1-5
It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church,
intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with
the sword. When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter
also. This happened during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. After arresting him,
he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four
soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
Acts 13 50-51
But the Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men
of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled
them from their region. So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against
them and went to Iconium.
Acts 14 3-5
So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord,
who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs
and wonders. The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews,
others with the apostles. There was a plot afoot among the Gentiles and Jews,
together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them
Acts 14 18-20
Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to
them. Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over.
They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. But
after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city.
The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
Heb 10 32-35
Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood
your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were
publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side
with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison and
joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you
yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your
confidence; it will be richly rewarded
Heb 2 18
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who
are being tempted.
Cor 4 7-18
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is
from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not
destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life
of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being
given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal
body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. It is written: "I
believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe
and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus
from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his
presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and
more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore
we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we
are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are
achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes
not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but
what is unseen is eternal.
Heb 13 11 - 15
The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin
offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. And so Jesus also suffered
outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then,
go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. For here we do not
have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. Through
Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of
lips that confess his name
II Cor 11 22-31
Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham's
descendants? So am I. Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk
like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently,
been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five
times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was
beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a
night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been
in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen,
in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at
sea; and in danger from false brothers. I have labored and toiled and have often
gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without
food; I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the
pressure of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak, and I do not feel
weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn? If I must boast, I will boast
of the things that show my weakness. The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who
is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.
